About tHE Artist

Liz Huston, a native of Los Angeles, may live in a place known for interesting characters, but it's in Huston's imagination where the truly unique characters exist. Entirely self taught, Huston's work has evolved over the decades from film photography into digital photography, into photomontage, and even further into mixed media through combining acrylics, oil and watercolors with her digital works.

Since 2012, Huston has owned and operated a gallery dedicated to her art and spirit, dubbed her 'studio shoppe' in Downtown Los Angeles, inside The Last Bookstore.
Her Dreamkeepers Tarot deck was published by US Games, Inc in January 2021.
She has been a featured photographer in Juxtapoz Magazine, and named one of "Photographers You Should Know" by Rangefinder Magazine.

Liz Huston's mixed media art is whimsical, surreal and dreamy, and her esoteric path informs this art in every way. Her complex imagery seems to bridge the worlds; creating not just art, but medicine for the human spirit.

A Spiral Spiritual Path

With an insatiable appetite to commune with the Divine, Liz Huston has been committed to esoteric studies for nearly 3 decades. In 1993, she began studying and practicing Tarot with a teacher who went by the name of Maat. This opened the door to the path of crystal healing with teacher Master Ho, a solitary Wicca path, Animism, Paganism, Goddess Spirituality, and a Shri Vidya lineage stream. She traveled extensively in order to learn and receive direct initiations from renowned Priestesses, lineage holders, and teachers.
In 2009, she began studying with teachers from The Four Winds Society, and traveled to Peru to sit with the Q'ero Pacos (Shamans) in the High Andes in Peru. She is a shamanic practitioner, and is certified to practice energy medicine by the Four Winds Healing the Light Body School.

short films about tHe artist’s life and process

From the synopsis:

Liz Huston is an enigmatic artist working in downtown Los Angeles. To help inform her artistic process, and her life in general, she travels to Peru in order to study with shamans. This short documentary is a meditation on art and the shamanic path, focusing on Huston’s extraordinary work, and her journey toward artistic and human clarity.

The spark that acted as the catalyst for the short film, Firewood: A Meditation on Art & the Shamanic Path, was Liz Huston's unique artwork. It prompted a dialogue between artist (Huston) and filmmaker (Nicholas Pallos), and was the seed that birthed the film. When Jason Decker (The Internet's Own Boy, We Are Legion) joined the project, as editor, and Jacob Hassett contributed the original score, Firewood truly began to reveal itself. What resulted is a film that is one part artistic adventure, one part meditation, and several parts journey of the soul.

From the artist:

I made this short film back in 2010, in order to invite people into my artwork, into who I am, what I do and how I do it.

Since that time, I have incorporated many new techniques. In addition to my digital compositing, I also paint with watercolors, acrylics, oil, and broadened my scope in digital painting. The result is that this video no longer portrays the complete picture of my art making process, but it is a good introduction.

The greatest love of my life is this artwork, and it is my great joy to share it with you.
Thank you for taking the time to watch.
