BAD GIRLS & OUTCASTS - Group Show

The witchy, wicked, wanton, weird women of fairytales, myths and legends.

Featured artist: Ulla Anobile
Scheduled to run: April 8 - May 6, 2017
RECEPTION: Saturday, April 8 * 6p-9p

BAD GIRLS & OUTCASTS will feature the women of fairytales, myths and legends who don't necessarily get Prince Charming. Or if they do, he leaves her for the goody-two-shoes Princess. These women may often go unrecognized (or is simply hidden away), because they don't fit the archetypal feminine canon of princesses and heroines, or the safe progression from maiden to mother to crone.

Our women may live, even thrive, on the dark side of the Moon, at the bottom of the ocean, in the depths of the primeval forest, in the hidden, rebellious, shadowy realms of a woman's soul, or in the rejected, often devalued parts of a man's psyche.

Our women are strong, wild, opinionated, seductive, bawdy, despondent, spurned, full of tears or fury. They can be crafty, vengeful, devious, evil. They go on their solitary way and do not aim to please anyone or ask for anyone's approval.

They hope, however, to be recognized as who they are and to be seen.

Loteria! III Group Show

“Loteria! III”
Scheduled to run: March 11 - April 1, 2017
RECEPTION: Saturday, March 11 * 6p-9p

For our MARCH 2017 exhibit the gallery will be celebrating its 12th birthday by hosting the third annual "LOTERIA" themed exhibit. The original 54 images of the original deck will be represented in the show.

Loteria is a traditional Mexican game of chance, similar to bingo, that uses images on a deck of cards instead of plain numbers. The 54 images each have a name and an assigned number. The cards are very colorful and the imagery on them is broadly recognized in all of Mexico, other Latin American countries, as well as European nations.

The Last Spookstore

Late one full-moon summer night, The Last Bookstore’s collection of classic horror novels slipped their papery bonds, and oozed into life. Shelley’s Frankenstein, King’s Pennywise the clown, Lovecraft’s Nyarlathotep and countless others roamed at will, terrorizing Last Bookstore staff. Nearly overrun by their evil, we were rescued by 31 artists, who captured these ghastly fiends and imprisoned them in 31 original works of art.

Join us October 3rd 8-11pm for The Last Spookstore: Horror Story Art Show, as these 31 terrors are unveiled. Celebrating with us will be local bands Tülips, Bloody Death Skull, and The Manx. Donation Bar by Highland Park Brewery and Field Recordings. This opening night event is FREE.

*And If you have the nerve to take one of the artworks into your home, art will be for sale during opening night and throughout the month. The Last Bookstore’s art sale commission and bar donations will go to our kindred spirits at 826LA.

Featuring artwork by our heroes: Andrea Bogdan, Eric Bouffard, Micah Brenner, Kenny Chapman, Champoy, Robey Clark, Chris Grun, Lori Hall-Araujo, Liz Huston, Brent Johnson, Zachariah Jones, Helen Kim, Mark Kulakoff, Jehoaddan Kulakoff, Nolan Lemos, Nik Lord, David Lovejoy, Melinda Molenda, Sue Molenda, Jordan Monsell, 214 Graffiti, Tifanee Taylor & James Obando, Suzanne Oshinsky, kAt Philbin, Jena Priebe, Grace Rosenman, Joseph Rubinstein, Todd Spence, Yanina Spizzirri, SiMON Sotelo, Sam Soto, Konstantin Steshenko, Big Tasty, and Michael Ulrich.

The Marvelous Minds - A Surrealist Art Show

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, September 18th-November 2nd — The Spring Arts Collective, a collective of artists based in the Spring Arts Tower in Downtown Los Angeles, has announced its latest invitational art show, entitled ‘The Marvelous Minds’, curated by Liz Huston.

To gaze, to step with your eyes into a work of art— is to step into the heart, and into the mind of the artist.

It is these marvelous minds which stretch and dream, twist and contort themselves in order to collect, connect, and reveal their visual truths. Truths that are at once beautiful and strange, each one of them a curious bending of dream and reality.
It is these Marvelous Minds, the particular way they see and show us the world, and the way in which we, in turn perceive them, is what we celebrate here.

The Marvelous Minds brings you new works from eleven talented visual artists from around the world, in celebration of the surreal, in their own Marvelous ways:
CRAWW
Lola Gil
Aunia Khan
Mike Stilkey
Miss Mindy
CJ Metzger
Liz Huston
Leonard Greco
Brandy Trigueros
Sara Tune
Lori Pond

The show is located on the mezzanine above The Last Bookstore on 5th & Spring in Downtown Los Angeles opening September 18th and running until November 2nd .

‘The Marvelous Minds’ opening reception will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Spring Arts Collective Gallery, 453 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90013. There will be a live cello performance, live painting by Miss Mindy, a DJ, and refreshments.
